When staying at European hotels, there is generally a bowl of apples or sometimes apples, oranges and peaches sitting on a stand next to the elevator. You are expected to just help yourself just about any time of day. Isn’t that interesting?
I have already mentioned that their fruit (including apples) looks rather sickly by American standards. That is because they are grown organically without genetic modification, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, etc. So, the size is small. The color is not as uniform as American fruit. There are often blemishes from bug bites. Even the texture is not as uniform as you begin to eat the apple.
And yet, Europeans commonly have a piece of fruit for a snack… most commonly an apple. You may have noticed that I started to eat an apple in between meals when I felt hungry.
I like a hard, tart crisp apple. My favorite is granny smith. Unfortunately my local stores do not carry organic apples. I went with whatever they had and that has been what I’ve been eating.
They are exceptional apples with no blemishes, so I’m fairly certain they are NOT organic. This isn’t an “all or nothing” game though.
One of the goals I have is to make sure there are no hard and fast rules about anything I eat. That just sets a person up on the “guilt trip” of “cheating” when rules are broken. That’s just silly. Being fat isn’t a moral issue. There is nothing to feel guilty about. Some things work to help you be skinny. Some things work to make you fatter. If something doesn’t work for me… or something doesn’t fit my lifestyle, I will simply stop that thing. I won’t feel guilty for “cheating.” That’s just a silly concept. More on that in a latter post.
So, it almost seemed like organic apples weren’t going to fit my lifestyle. That’s OK. It’s my lifestyle. I can choose to eat non-organic apples instead.
Then I found an Internet supplier. These folks deliver overnight by UPS and they carry a large selection of apples that are grown organically. Here is the URL:

Check them out. They have a lot of organic stuff other than apples as well.
Regardless, apples are apparently good. If you can’t get organic for some reason, apparently the non-organic apples aren’t so bad.

We have a delicious apple in the UK that is very juicy. It is called a “Pink Lady” and I heartily recommend them.
