Another Grape Fast

Aloha,
I just finished a couple of “free” weeks (no controlled diet plan).
This week, I’m doing another grape fast to see if the results are consistent.  The rules:
1. Drink as much water as desired.  Can have some lemon or lime juice in the water.
2. Eat as many seeded red grapes as desired.  Eat the seeds.  Chew […]

Current Eating Plan

We took a vacation out of the country from Wednesday through Saturday of last week.  Those days were free days because we wanted to experience Nicaraguan food.
Since returning, we had a fast Sunday and then decided to do four days of grapes and water again followed by four days of meat only.
My wife is then […]

Grapes And Water

I’m cutting the meat only week short a bit.  As you can see, it worked out just as well as it has in the past.  It’s a good one week plan when doing the swap diet.
We’re traveling next week and wanted to get a full week of a new eating plan in.
This one is pretty […]

This Week Is Meat Only

Aloha,
I finished up with the raw vegan eating plan for a week.  The weight loss was quite remarkable and I felt very good the entire week.
This week’s eating plan is meat and eggs only.  I will be using seasonings, but 98% of what I’ll be eating this week will be meat and eggs.
This is a […]

Chimichuri

One of my favorite dishes this week is a traditional Costa Rican salad called chimichuri.
Making chimichuri is easy.  First you chop tomatoes, onions, cucumber and cilanto (more tomatoes and cucumber than onions… more onions than cilatro).  Mix them together and dowse with lime juice.
Then shred cabbage and place a nice thick bed (about 1/2″ thick) […]

Eating Raw

For awhile, I have been experimenting with supplements.  I found that niacin and calcium both have a weight loss effect on me.  Other supplements caused weight gain in me.
In general though, supplements were such a minor effect that I think it’s time to go back to switching diets weekly.
This week, I’m eating raw.  This is […]

Calcium + Niacin For Weight Loss?

For awhile, I haven’t been switching diets each week.  I wanted to play with supplements to see which ones had a measurable impact on weight loss.
So far, I have only found two and those are both with only a single week of data points, so both may turn out to have no efffect long term.
I’ve […]

Why Don’t You Just Eat Less?

That question was asked in the comments of a prior blog entry.
I’m sure a lot of readers have received similar questions or advice:
1. Why don’t you just eat less.
2. Eat less and move more.  That’s the secret to weight loss.
3. Eat fewer calories than you burn and you will lose weight.
4. It’s all about the […]

This Week’s Supplement: Calcium

Aloha,
I’m no longer working the switch diet.  I will when I’m ready to lose the last 40 pounds.  It works and works very well without any hunger, pain, guilt or anything else that is usually associated with weight loss.
However, for the last few weeks, I’ve been playing around with supplements and keeping my diet the […]

Is Your Keyboard Making You Fat?

Do an experiment right now. Don’t keep reading. Do it.
Pick up your keyboard and turn it upside down. Tap it twice lightly against your desk.
If crumbs fall out, you are busted!
It’s not the keyboard that makes you fat. It’s the operator of the keyboard. No, don’t look behind you.
TV is not the only culprit behind the […]

Indole-3-Carbinol

So far, I have tried psylium husks (no affect) and slo-niacin (nice effect) as supplements to help with weight loss.
I’ll need to repeat both experiments under several different circumstances in order to get some statistically valid data, but now it’s time to move on to the next supplement.
This week, I’ll be trying Indole-3-Carbinol.  I purchased […]

Niacin Supplement

Today was the last day for the psylium husk supplements.
Tomorrow, I will be starting a niacin supplement called Slo-Niacin.
I will be taking 1000mg in the morning and 1000mg before bed.
I bought my bottle on Amazon.  The manufacturer is UPSHER-SMITH.
We’ll see how it goes.

Fad Diets Do Work

I betcha never heard someone say that so bluntly.
It’s true though.  We all know it’s true.  You’ve probably tried several fad diets.  Almost all of them worked for the first week; right?
If you eat all meat for a week, you’ll probably lose weight.  If you eat all lettuce for a week, you’ll probably lose weight.  […]

Trying Something Different: Supplements

I’m OK with my current weight… at least for awhile.  I’m no longer obese and can do just about any activity.  My blood pressure is now completely in the normal range.  All other health factors are OK.  I have maintained this weight now for several months.
I do eventually want to lose another 40 pounds though.  […]

Does The Switch Diet Work Long-term?

Yes.  It does.  I lost 40 pounds and I’ve kept it off.  I never suffered.  I never got tired of what I was eating.
The trick was simply to switch diets every week.  That kept me from ever getting tired of a particular diet.  It also ensured that I was receiving proper nutrition by having a […]

Changes

Back in April when I started this blog, and my diet, I weighed in at 285 lbs. Today, I weigh in at 243.8 pounds. That’s a difference of 41.2 pounds. But is this the amount of weight I’ve lost?
No. Its merely the difference in my weight from then and now. Just based on the measurements […]

Five Gifts For Those Losing Weight

With the season of giving fast approaching, I wanted to share with you some ideas for those on your list who are currently trying to lose weight. Or maybe you know someone who has chosen to diet as a New Year’s Resolution. By the way, its perfectly acceptable to buy yourself the gifts you really […]

My Crab Cake Recipe

My wife and I both love this one.
Most crab cake recipes are mostly filler… breading and all kinds of high carb stuff.
This one is compliant with this week’s “meat only” diet which allows for some small amount of spices or other flavoring.
Here’s what you need:
1/4 stick of butter
1 pound lump crab meat
2 eggs
4 teaspoons of […]

High Nutrient Foods

One interesting theory about weight gain is that those who are overweight are actually starving.  Due to a lack of nutrients, their body goes into starvation mode and starts to store fat.
It’s as difficult to prove this theory as it is to prove or disprove the theory that poisons in our diet are being trapped […]

Beef Broth

When I eliminated all of the glutamates from my food storage, I realized that I had absolutely no way to make a simple stew or soup… because ALL of the broth options disappeared!
I had several.  I had organic beef broth in a box from the local health food store.  Sorry… glutamates.  It’s gone.
I had several […]

Thanksgiving And Meat

This last week’s Thanksgiving trip to California came with it’s penalties as you can see in the measurements.
This week’s eating plan is all meat and eggs.  Minimal seasoning will be allowed (a tiny amount of tomato sauce, any amount of spices, salt, mustard, etc).
The vegetarian eating plan was obviously a bust.  I still don’t get […]

Does Rice Make You Fat?

I’ve been pondering that lately.  This week’s eating plan is vegan.  I decided to really give vegan a fair shake (even though everyone I’ve ever met that was a vegan was fat)… so I’m making it a slow-carb vegan week.
I’m not eating bread, noodles, potatoes, carrots or any other high carb vegetable.  I am eating […]

Glutamates

Have you heard of MSG (monosodium glutamate)?
Probably so.  You probably know of Chinese restaraunts that proudly proclaim that they don’t use MSG.  You may have heard that lots of people have alergic reactions to MSG.  Maybe you have also heard that MSG is an excitotoxin that kills brain cells.
Have you heard that MSG is a HUGE […]

I Started A Fast

We returned from Costa Rica on Tuesday.  After two months without a controlled eating plan of any kind, I gained 6 pounds.  As I mentioned before, I’m not very upset about that.  It means my body still has a higher set point than my current weight, but the weight gain is only an average of […]

Two Months Of Uncontrolled Diet

I have now been in Costa Rica for two months.  I intended to keep trying new diet plans during this trip.  I didn’t.
I return a week from today.  The plan is to do three days of light organic food followed by a 7 day water fast to reset my body and make it easier to […]

Diet Catchup

For the last week, I have been on “one meal a day after 7pm.”  It was a useful diet plan for preparing to travel.
I’m now in Costa Rica.  I have switched to a “slow carb” plan eating two or three meals a day that consists of low carb foods (any meat and any low carb […]

Diet Update And Candida Cleanse Info

I was doing a week long water and lemon juce fast the last time I posted.  It’s time to get up-to-date on my eating plans.
After that fast, I switched back to the “single item” eating plan.  I ate as much of a single fruit as I wanted for breakfast, a single vegetable for lunch and […]

The Problem With Exercise

Have you ever read the book 1984 by George Orwell?  It tells a story about a goverment who controlled it’s people by changing the very language they spoke.
I deal with that problem as it exists in today’s world quite a bit on my financial success blog and in other places.  The meanings that people give […]

No Longer Obese And Some Thoughts About Exercise

I’ve hit a milestone in the weight loss project.  I’m no longer “obese” by many charts.  I’m merely “overweight.”
I’m also at the halfway mark to “normal weight.”
It’s been less than four months since I started this project.  I would say that the plan is working and working extremely well.  I’m pleased with the results.
The plan […]
