Does Rice Make You Fat?

I’ve been pondering that lately.  This week’s eating plan is vegan.  I decided to really give vegan a fair shake (even though everyone I’ve ever met that was a vegan was fat)… so I’m making it a slow-carb vegan week.
I’m not eating bread, noodles, potatoes, carrots or any other high carb vegetable.  I am eating […]

Glutamates

Have you heard of MSG (monosodium glutamate)?
Probably so.  You probably know of Chinese restaraunts that proudly proclaim that they don’t use MSG.  You may have heard that lots of people have alergic reactions to MSG.  Maybe you have also heard that MSG is an excitotoxin that kills brain cells.
Have you heard that MSG is a HUGE […]

I Started A Fast

We returned from Costa Rica on Tuesday.  After two months without a controlled eating plan of any kind, I gained 6 pounds.  As I mentioned before, I’m not very upset about that.  It means my body still has a higher set point than my current weight, but the weight gain is only an average of […]

Two Months Of Uncontrolled Diet

I have now been in Costa Rica for two months.  I intended to keep trying new diet plans during this trip.  I didn’t.
I return a week from today.  The plan is to do three days of light organic food followed by a 7 day water fast to reset my body and make it easier to […]

Diet Catchup

For the last week, I have been on “one meal a day after 7pm.”  It was a useful diet plan for preparing to travel.
I’m now in Costa Rica.  I have switched to a “slow carb” plan eating two or three meals a day that consists of low carb foods (any meat and any low carb […]

Diet Update And Candida Cleanse Info

I was doing a week long water and lemon juce fast the last time I posted.  It’s time to get up-to-date on my eating plans.
After that fast, I switched back to the “single item” eating plan.  I ate as much of a single fruit as I wanted for breakfast, a single vegetable for lunch and […]

The Problem With Exercise

Have you ever read the book 1984 by George Orwell?  It tells a story about a goverment who controlled it’s people by changing the very language they spoke.
I deal with that problem as it exists in today’s world quite a bit on my financial success blog and in other places.  The meanings that people give […]

No Longer Obese And Some Thoughts About Exercise

I’ve hit a milestone in the weight loss project.  I’m no longer “obese” by many charts.  I’m merely “overweight.”
I’m also at the halfway mark to “normal weight.”
It’s been less than four months since I started this project.  I would say that the plan is working and working extremely well.  I’m pleased with the results.
The plan […]

Why I’m Not A Vegetarian

First of all, I would like to say that I have a strong respect for those who choose a vegetarian lifestyle.  I always ask them if their choice was religious, health and/or a desire to not kill animals.
I am always interested in their answer and I have a deep feeling of admiration for anyone who […]

Fasting

I ended the “single item” eating plan yesterday.
This week, I will be fasting and doing a candida cleanse.
The candida cleanse will actually continue for the next four weeks in some form or another.   For this week and next week, I will be consuming oregano oil (10 drops or so per day in gel caps) to […]

Minerals

Awhile back, I wrote an article about how to get all of the major vitamins from real food sources… with each real food source being only about a tablespoon.
The net result was something that was almost as convenient as taking a vitamin pill, but probably much more effective since the vitamins were in their natural […]

Body Fat Percentage

Many have asked me how I’m measuring body fat percentage.  I use this scale:
http://www.amazon.com/Tanita-Body-Water-Percentage-Monitor/dp/B000IXXCDG/
It is more important to watch your body fat percentage when losing weight than it is to watch your actual weight.
This is because your body naturally stays slimmer if you have a higher percentage of lean mass.  Muscle causes a higher metabolism […]

The Theory Behind This Week’s Diet

As most of you know, I switch diets every week.  I’m doing that for a variety of reasons:
1. A key reason people stop any kind of planned eating is that they get bored of it or they start craving something that isn’t allowed on that plan.
2. Your body also gets used to just about any […]

New Diet Plan

I ended the all meat, cheese and dairy eating plan on Saturday.
This week, the eating plan is:
As much of any one fruit as I want for breakfast.
As much of any one vegetable as I want for lunch.
As much of any one meat as I want for dinner.
The first day I had cherries for breakfast (about […]

Diet Catchup

I ended the lemonade fast last Friday.
Since then, the eating plan rules have been:
1. Eat only meat, certain cheeses and eggs.
2. Take a vitamin C supplement.
3. Cheeses include any cheese with less than 1/15th of the grams being carbohydrate.  I’m eating sharp cheddar, cream cheese, havarti and swiss.
4. I’m eating as much as I want […]

The American Problem

I talk a lot about the evils of television on other blogs that have to do with other subjects.
It is well known that several studies have found a link between television watching and childhood obesity here in the U.S.  Those studies haven’t yet been performed on adults as far as I know.  On other blogs, […]

Diet Catchup

Between the last diet related post and this one, my diet has been:
4 oz of meat or eggs (chicken, elk, buffalo, beef, shrimp, eggs)
8 oz of some kind of low-carb vegetables (brocolli, cauliflower, cucumber, olives, avocado)
for each of three daily meals.
Today I start a lemonade fast.  I will be drinking only water with the following […]

Hoodia

Hoodia is a plant that grows natively in Africa.
It is reportedly used by locals when on long walking journeys to reduce hunger.
It has recently become a huge fad for weight loss in America.  The plant is dried, ground up into a powder and packed into a magic pill.
At first, I saw no use for this […]

Diet Catchup

Dinner yesterday turned out to be ice cream.
This recipe included:
1 can of coconut milk
About 10 drops of  stevia
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
8 oz of frozen raspberries
1/4 cup of coconut flakes
All of that was added at the same time the the ice cream maker (double the above actually… my wife ate the other half) and ran […]

Diet Catchup

I haven’t posted my eating plans recently.  Here’s a catch-up.
From the last entry until Wednesday of last week, I was drinking 180 grams of whey protein in three shakes throughout the day and taking the vitamin supplements talked about in a prior post (the “Eat Your Vitamins” post).  After that, I would eat whatever I […]

Eat Your Vitamins

Have you ever tried a diet plan that you felt needed supplementation for vitamins?
As many of you know, I’m switching diets each week so temporary imbalances aren’t necessarily a problem.  In fact, that is the strategy.  I’m constantly keeping my body guessing about what’s coming next rather than allowing it too compensate.
However, it has occurred […]

Yesterday’s Diet

I had 1/2 grapefruit for breakfast.
Lunch was 4oz chicken, 4 oz cauliflower, and 4oz of marinated cucumbers (vinegar, lemon juice, water and black pepper).
Dinner was at a Greek restaurant.  I had dolmas (grape leaves stuffed with ground lamb and rice), souvlaki (marinated chicken), cucumbers, feta cheese, pita bread dipped in a yogurt/cucumber sauce.
Dessert was spumoni.
-James […]

Change Of Plans

Dinner wasn’t as planned.  Instead I had a very fatty steak (similar to Kobe, but even more marbled… it falls apart while broiling)… 4oz along with 4oz of broccoli as planned, but with 4 oz of sliced fresh strawberries instead of what was planned.
-James D. Brausch

Today’s Diet

Here is today’s diet:
Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit
Lunch: 4 oz shrimp, 4oz cauliflower, and 4 oz celery
Dinner: 4 oz hamburger, 4 oz broccoli and 4oz cucumbers (marinated in lemon, vinegar and cayenne)
-James D. Brausch

Today’s Diet

Here is today’s diet:
Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit
Lunch: 4 oz beef cubes (fried in butter with spike seasoning), 4oz cauliflower (fried in coconut oil with garlic salt), and 4oz cucumbers (marinated in lemon, vinegar and cayenne)
Dinner: 4 oz halibut (caught by my father-in-law in Alaska a couple weeks ago…  baked with spike seasoning), 4 oz broccoli and […]

Colon Cleanse

One of the things I read about in Kevin Trudeau’s book was the importance of doing a colon cleanse to lose weight.
The claim is that there is decaying organic matter in most people’s colons that has been there for years.  It blocks adsorption and provides food for a candida yeast infection which leads to carbohydrate […]

Diet This Week

I did a couple of experiments over the last couple of weeks where I didn’t want to disclose my diet.  I didn’t want people to try unproven things… and I didn’t want readers to make bizarre conclusions from limited data (which I’ve seen in the comments).
I’ll go over what I did and the results after […]

The Calorie Religion

Several folks have opined that losing weight is as simple as reducing your caloric input and/or increasing the number of calories you burn.
For years, the FDA itself taught this nonsense even though it has been refuted literally thousands of times.  Let’s take a closer look.
The theory is based on treating the human body as a […]

Home Made Ice Cream Recipes

Before giving this recipe, I should warn you that it contains a high carb count.
A blog reader recently criticized the fat count.  Fat doesn’t make you fat.  In fact, the most weight I have ever lost was on a high fat diet.  I don’t recommend that for several health reasons, but the fact is that […]
