Diamond Organics

I received my order from Diamond Organics today.

I’m very pleased.

The apples look almost as good as non-organically grown apples.

I also ordered a surprise basket of vegetables and a surprise basket of fruits.

As expected, it was mostly apples and oranges for the fruit box and mostly lettuces for the vegetable box (about half of each).   That’s OK since that is what I eat most.

The other half of each box was a very nice surprise.  There is plenty of goodies for a soup tomorrow in the vegetable box.

There were two surprises I don’t recognize in the fruit box.  One looks a bit like a mango, but smaller and purple.  The other is very bizarre.  At first glance it looks like a green tomato.  It is larger than most tomatos though and irregularly shaped (a bulge).  It is also very hard compared to even a green tomato.  On second glance, it can be seen that the entire surface isn’t rounded.  It is a series of flat spots in the shape of an elongated hexagram each about 3/4 of an inch in size.

Anyone know what the heck this thing is?  If I had a name I could look up how to tell if it is ripe and how it is generally used in recipes.

Surprise fruits and vegetables are pretty cool.  I’ll probably order from Diamond Organics weekly.
