Yesterday we bought raw milk for the first time. We’ve been trying for quite awhile to purchase raw milk, but it is all but illegal in the United States.
There is a goat ranch 60 miles from where we live in Utah that sells raw goat milk if you sign a bunch of waivers and promise not to actually drink it.
Here in Costa Rica, we noticed a milk truck stopping at our neighbor’s house a few times, but we never made it outside to ask about it. We finally did. Sure enough, it’s raw unpasturized and non-homogenized cow milk that is being sold. You provide the glass bottles. He very carefully and precisely measures it out and never spills a drop. The cost is about 50 cents a quart.
It’s very yummy. I had a small glass that morning even though it isn’t on my current “meat only” diet. I had a larger glass before bed because I was curious if it would affect my fasting glucose level in the morning. Apparently it didn’t.
We bought some more today and I have had a couple of glasses. It’s incredible how much better real milk is than the store bought boiled and shattered dead milk.
I’m considering a raw milk fast for a future one week eating plan test.
