Aloha,
I’m no longer working the switch diet. I will when I’m ready to lose the last 40 pounds. It works and works very well without any hunger, pain, guilt or anything else that is usually associated with weight loss.
However, for the last few weeks, I’ve been playing around with supplements and keeping my diet the same (a rational diet of meats, vegetables, beans, fruits, nuts, etc… no or little grains, no or little sugar, limited rice).
Last week I experimented with megadoses of Indole-3-Carbinol. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a fat % scale available. I gained weight during that week, but I suspect it was muscle weight. I’ll repeat that experiment when I have a fat % scale available for measuring.
In any case, it’s time to switch to a new supplement. This week, I will be taking megadoses of Calcium. It appears that most sources recommend something like 500mg-1,000mg of calcium daily (1/2 gram-1 gram). I will be taking 4 grams daily.
Obviously this is a personal choice and is not something I am recommending. It is far above the recommended dosage. As always, you should make your own decisions perhaps with the help of a qualified professional. I am choosing to take megadoses so that I can gather data faster. I understand there are risks and I have chosen to accept those risks. You sholuld make your own decisions. I’m not recommending this for you.
In any case…
So far, the only supplement that has shown significant weight loss has been Niacin (the slow release kind). Psylium husks apparently caused weight gain. So did Indole-3-Carbinol, but the mechanism that it supposedly works by could have resulted in muscle gain and fat loss. That one will have to be repeated with a method to measure body fat percentage included.
In fact, all of these will have to be repeated several times to get several data points with different conditions before and after the week of the test.
For now though, let’s see how calcium does.

Hey I heard too many calcium supplements can cause negative side effects. Do you know if thats true or not?
This is probably a really stupid question. But why don’t you just eat less?
